Welcome from the President

I am honoured to welcome you to the renowned Queens’ theatrical society – BATS! Founded in 1942, BATS exemplifies the rich history of creativity and theatre-making in Cambridge. In this new era, BATS aims to pioneer innovation, collaboration and community, reflecting the values of Queens’ College and creating spaces and opportunities to drive creativity and artistic expression. BATS encourages students to utilise the wonderful facilities on offer to push the limits of theatre to not only challenge themselves but audiences as well. BATS has become one of the leading theatrical societies in Cambridge thanks to all the brilliant people involved in the community and we look forward to showing you how much more BATS has to achieve. Thank you to everyone who supports us and helps us to create opportunities for untold stories, human connection and art.

The home of BATS…
The Fitzpatrick Hall, affectionately shortened to ‘the Fitzpat’, is one of the best performance spaces in Cambridge and the pride of BATS. The hall is a modern, exceptionally technically well-equipped venue with a capacity of 208.
Located on the safety curtain-enclosed stage of the Fitzpatrick Hall, The Black Box Studio is an intimate theatre space with a capacity of 40 seats, but the full technical resource of the main space. The seating configuration is flexible, and the space particularly offers itself to workshops, experimental drama, and immersive theatre.

Cloister Court
The home of summer festivities…
Every week, our renowned May Week Show takes place around Queens’ College, the focal point of which is Cloister Court; ensconced between some of the oldest buildings on the Cam and Queens’ very own President’s Lodge, the May Week Shakespeare production, in the environs of Cloister Court, is one of BATS’ oldest traditions.
