By Alice Birch
She can’t stay away.
She sold drugs.
She’s good at interrogations.
She drinks in the mornings.
She ate a rabbit.
She smashed up a shop.
She stabbed a man.
She used a hammer.
She had a baby.
She can’t find a mother.
She’s covered in blood and doesn’t know why.
Alice Birch’s [BLANK], created in collaboration with CleanBreak, is a collection of 100 scenes based on verbatim interviews with women who have been affected by the criminal justice system, formed into a two-act play. This unique production poses a challenge to theatre makers: devise a performance from Birch’s scenes – the storyline, order of scenes and characters are entirely up for interpretation. BATS’ [BLANK] is created, directed and acted by an all female and non-binary company.
CW: mentions of domestic violence, alcoholism, child neglect, murder.
By Alice Birch. Company directed by Imogen Carter and Ella Thornburn.
